About Fugees
Hip-hop hit films had become commonplace by 1996. These albums came in a variety of styles: gangsta, peppy, and the slightly patronising moniker "socially conscious." Very few albums, if any, fulfil all three requirements, and none have achieved more artistic or economic success than Fugees' sophomore album.
Rock aficionados will find the instrumentation to be ideal, while stoners and college students will find a fairly clear version of Bob Marley, and middle-aged listeners who are still unsure about hip-hop will find figurehead Lauryn Hill's soulful vocals convincing enough. Pop music fans and activists for change, Clef, Hill, and third member Pras Michael were the ones who started it all in the late '80s." They were also aggressive and melodic. (Billboard)
