When Kim Gordon labels an album with the words "I love this record", it has to be at least brilliant. Which brings us to The War On Drugs founding member Kurt Vile and his new, meanwhile sixth long player "B'lieve Me I'm Going Down...".
It is no secret that not only the Sonic-Youth-icon is enthusiastic about the guitarist and singer/songwriter from Philadelphia. At the latest since his last album "Wakin On A Pretty Daze", which was celebrated by audience, critics and colleagues alike, the curly head has arrived in the modern alternative rock Olympus. Of course, the stoic stoner is one of the greats now. And the "B'lieve Me I'm Going Down..." recorded and mixed in Los Angeles and Joshua Tree also bears witness to this.
It leads on an acoustic journey from the east to the west coast and through the history of the country from Woody Guthrie to Dinosaur Jr. "B'lieve Me I'm Going Down..." has become a very mature and authentic rock album, which in our fast-paced digital age, where everything seems possible, is focused, clear and sincere, providing a pleasant breath of fresh air.
